ASTM C90 is the governing standard for load-bearing units and sets minimum net area compressive strength, wall thickness, and dimensional tolerance. Any block going into a structural wall should meet it. If your job carries an engineer's specification, bring it to the counter, since specified strength and grout requirements change which unit you need.

Hollow CMU
